We are sooooooooooo behind on this page. There's too much happening to keep up. Please don't assume that if the events below seem dated, that we're inactive. Quite the opposite! We could use a volunteer to help keep this page up to date. If you can help, email info2008(at)sfeva(dot)org.

May 3 - 4, 2008 - Maker Faire

Maker Faire, San Mateo Fairgrounds, http://makerfaire.com/ Plug-in hybrids will be featured at the CalCars booth. SFEVA volunteers are needed at the plug-in booth. See Meeting Location and Agenda for details about volunteering. September 16, 2007 - Retro Mobile / Classic Auto Show. Berkeley

Retro Mobile, Classic Auto Show, Alternative Fuel Vehicles, and Electric Vehicles--a benefit for the Berkeley Public Education Foundation. One of the sponsors is ZENN, a manufacturer of electric vehicles.

Details and information can be found at http://www.fourthstreet.com/lofts.html

September 15, 2007 - Sustainable Fairfax. What to Drive, If you Must

Sustainable Fairfax hosted a panel of speakers to educate the public on the most environmentally friendly choices of cars with low to no carbon emissions available today. The focus of discussion is what you can drive today as opposed to waiting several years to drive a more energy efficient vehicle.

Marc Geller, SFEVA Vice President will be one of the panelists.

August 25, 2007 - Electric Car Rally.

The Silicon Valley Chapter of the Electric Vehicle Association Electric Car Rally. Go to the Discussion Forum and http://eaasv.org/rally.html for more information.

August 9, 2007 - West Coast debut of the Vectrix electric motorcycle.

The event was held at the Presidio Parade Grounds and hosted by Vectrix and British Motor Car Distributors (BMC) with special remarks from Chelsea Sexton, "Who Killed The Electric Car?" and Marc Geller, co-founder of Plug In America and SFEVA member.

As usual, the SFEVA held its annual Solar Homes and Electric Vehicles Tour at the end of September 2006. We also had our usual booth at the SF Green Festival, where SFEVA President Sherry Boschert was a speaker on plug-in hybrids.

The SFEVA had a booth at the San Francisco Pride Festival on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, 2006 at SF Civic Center.

We drove EVs in the Sustainable Novato contingent of the Novato 4th of July parade. Independence from oil!

When the powerful documentary, Who Killed the Electric Car? opened in the Bay Area in spring and summer of 2006, we had post-film parties on opening nights in San Francisco and Mill Valley and stationed out cars outside theaters after many showings to distribute literature and educate theater-goers.

The August SFEVA meeting was held on August 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Local dealers of electric bikes and scooters joined us to show off their products.

The SFEVA joined Greenpeace, the Sierra Club and other organizations in a rally at City Hall for Community Choice Aggregation in May 2006.

Community Choice would give San Francisco the right to buy power from others besides PG&E. The implementation plan calls for building 360 megaWatts of solar power in the city. More than 250 people used mirrors to shine the sun into City Hall. Read more about CCA at http://www.local.org/commchoi.html.

In April 2006 SFEVA members were part of the CalCars team that did a public conversion of a Prius to a plug-in Prius at the Maker Faire in San Mateo.

We organized an EV shuttle to ferry movie-goers from the SF premier of Who Killed the Electric Car? at the San Francisco Film Festival to an after-party with the filmmakers at Rasselas Jazz Club. The movie had everyone jazzed.

Green Festival: A slew of volunteers had a merry old time at SFEVA's booth at the San Francisco Green Festival in November, 2005.

Clean Fuel collaboration: In October, 2005, the SFEVA displayed EVs alongside our biodiesel buddies at the "Clean Fuel Convergence: Modeling Clean Fuel Solutions to Our Energy and Climate Crisis", at CELLspace in the Mission District. The event featured Julia Butterfly Hill and was organized by the Clean Fuel Caravan Coalition.

Solar Homes Tour Featuring Electric Vehicles: More than 150 people toured nine solar homes in San Francisco on October 1, 2005, to learn about solar photovoltaic power (PV), electric vehicles (EVs), and the PV/EV connection. The event raised $1,800 for SFEVA chapter expenses. We couldn't have done it without the help of NorCalSolar.org! If you'd like to volunteer for our 2006 Tour (the first Saturday in October), e-mail us at info2008(at)sfeva(dot)org.

Sierra Summit: This one was a little tricky. SFEVA had a booth at the Sierra Club's first national convention in September, 2005, at Moscone Center. We thought we also had permission to participate in their "Ride and Drive" event outside, where people were taken for rides in cars. One misunderstanding led to another, and we found ourselves out on the sidewalk with a bullhorn borrowed from Rainforest Action Network to entice summiteers past the gasoline hybrids featured by Sierra Club and out to our gas-free, emission-free EVs. (See photo selection at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/earthworm/tags/sierrasummit/)

False advertising busted: When Ford Motor Company ran a full-page ad in the San Francisco Chronicle on Aug. 4, 2005, claiming that its Escape gasoline hybrids are "the cleanest, most fuel-efficient SUVs on the road", the SFEVA called the Chronicle to protest. Everyone knows that the all-electric Toyota RAV4-EVs are the only SUVs on the road that are so clean they don't even have an exhaust pipe. Now Ford and the SF Chronicle know it too.

Fourth of July: Nothing like an old-fashioned parade, especially when we can celebrate Independence from Oil. The SFEVA joined Sustainable Novato for the 2005 Novato Independence Day parade. Our caravan of four RAV4-EVs was the only set of cars in the parade that weren't toxic to parade-watchers!

GLBT Pride: Pride Day in June is one of San Francisco's biggest events, and SFEVA was there, of course. We were pleasantly surprised how many people who came by the booth already had heard of EVs and our efforts to save them from being crushed by the car companies.

Green Cities Expo: Part of the United Nations World Environment Day activities in San Francisco, this June, 2005, expo drew thousands of people from around the world to Fort Mason. The SFEVA shared booth spaces with the Electric Bike Network and the CalCars Prius Plus plug-in hybrid, with support from Rainforest Action Network and the Bluewaters Network.

PV/EV Workshop: Also as part of the World Environment Day activities, SFEVA President Sherry Boschert and solar installer Greg Kennedy of Occidental Solar presented a public workshop at the San Francisco School on "PV/EV = Solar Power + Electric Vehicles". PV/EV is as close as you can get to a car that runs on sunshine. If you'd like us to come talk to your organization, contact us!

Earth Day: The College of Marin in Kentfield hosted the SFEVA and other green groups for a day-long festival in April, 2005.

The plug-in Prius came to an SFEVA meeting in March, 2005, and even got us die-hard EVers excited about a car that has a gas tank! For info on plug-in hybrids, see http://www.calcars.org.

Ford Ranger EV electric pickup truck drivers held an 8-day vigil outside a Sacramento Ford dealership organized by the Jumpstart Ford campaign with support from the SFEVA. The publicity moved Ford to agree to sell the Ranger EVs to current and previous leaseholders for $1 each instead of destroying the trucks.

In November 2004, SFEVA members and their EVs joined Rainforest Action Network and Global Exchange in front of the San Francisco Auto Show at Moscone Center to educate car enthusiasts about the benefits of EVs.
